Cree que hay una magia particular inherente a la pintura. Intenta impregnar algo de ese misticismo en su obra utilizando paletas de colores saturados, combinando elementos de realismo con superficies planas y gráficas, y haciendo referencia tanto a símbolos antiguos como modernos. Se siente continuamente fascinada por la división entre la idealización y la realidad, especialmente la brecha entre los sueños optimistas de América en la década de 1960 y la decadencia y desilusión de la década siguiente. Desde la infancia, la cultura y estética de mediados de siglo han resonado en ella, lo que ha evolucionado hacia un interés en la nostalgia en sí misma; el efecto inquietante que tiene en el alma, destacando cuán agridulce es la situación de ser humano. Las huellas energéticas del pasado se han convertido en fantasmas influyentes, manifestándose continuamente dentro de sus pinturas.
